Judge Julia Aurigemma attended Cornell University (B.A. 1975 American History) and UConn Law School (J.D. 1978). She practiced law with the Hartford law firm of Hoberman & Pollack (now Rome McGuigan) from 1978 until 1990 where her practice consisted primarily of commercial and general litigation. In 1990 she was appointed to the Superior Court. Judge Aurigemma was one of the first five judges to sit on the Complex Litigation Docket from June 1998 until September 2002. She presided over the Connecticut State class action litigation against Colonial Realty. She was the Administrative Judge of the Middlesex Judicial District from 2003 through 2008, a civil judge in the Hartford Judicial District from 2008 through 2011, presiding Civil Judge of the Middlesex Judicial District from 2011 through 2017, and a civil judge in the New Britain Judicial District from 2017 through 2022. She resigned from the bench in May 2022.
Judge Aurigemma was a member of the Connecticut Evidence Code Drafting Commission, the Executive Committee of the Judicial Branch, the Rules Committee, and the Civil Jury Instruction Committee. Judge Aurigemma has served as the Treasurer of the Connecticut Judges Association and the Executive Committee of that Association. She has also served as the President of the Hartford Chapter of the Inns of Court. She taught Evidence at the University of Connecticut School of Law and coached the Xavier High School Model Court team for several years.
Judge Aurigemma has lived in Cromwell for 44 years, is married and has two sons, one a former Marine officer who served in Afghanistan, and the other a Navy doctor. She is an avid runner and has completed several marathons.
